HOW WE LEAD
How You Treat People With No Power Says Everything About Your Character
It also shows what kind of leader you will be; a story from Sir Richard Branson
The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all. — Richard Branson
The Branson Story
In the late 1980’s Sir Richard Branson invited 6 newly hired executives to spend the weekend at his estate outside of London. He sent a very old taxi driver, about 85, to pick them up at the airport.
Some of the executives complained aloud why a limo wasn’t sent, why they had to stow their own luggage, why they were crammed together and why the ‘feeble’ driver was motoring so slowly.
The other three were embarrassed by their colleagues and spoke kindly to the elderly driver. They helped put all the bags in the trunk and asked him about landmarks they saw on the way.
When they arrived at the Branson estate, the taxi driver followed them inside to the entry hall. And then to everyone’s surprise, the driver pulled off his wrinkled face mask — -and it was Richard Branson.
